I love working on kitchens because I love to cook! If a kitchen is ugly and does not have enough storage or counter space it can be stressful. Always having to compensate for a poor design gets really old. I have lived through kitchen renovations and I know they are tough, but the outcome is ALWAYS worth it!
This client went back and forth about renovating the house they were in or moving. They spoke with builders, visited the Parade of Homes, and ultimately decided they loved their location and would renovate. I talk to many people who go through this conversation! In fact my husband and I will sometimes wonder if we should tackle the next project on our home or move. Alas, we’ve stayed!
This client wanted a light and bright feeling, more storage and and better kitchen island. Here are the before shots!
The island was so weird and dysfunctional!
The bar was uninspiring and lacked good storage solutions, even though there was plenty of square footage and wall space.
The bar, opposite wall.
And here’s the after! Light, bright and almost twice as much storage! We did new flooring on the entire main level, all new cabinets, counter tops, lighting and appliances. It was basically a complete overhaul.
We took the cabinets to the ceiling which helped the room feel taller.
The perimeter kitchen cabinets are white and the island is a light gray with slightly different door styles.
This client loves gold and blue so we incorporated that in the accessories and dishes.
The backsplash is a mix of straight set and herringbone subway tile to add a modern twist.
I love the mix of modern, classic and natural elements and I feel this vase with greenery really captures that look.
We more than doubled the storage in the bar, that was so exciting!! This was the wall with the freestanding wire wine shelves. Obviously they are wine lovers too (we have that in common!).
We added so much storage to the bar I recommended using the wall above the counter for a mirror. It makes the room feel larger and reflects light, I love using mirrors to open up small spaces.
Kitchens are such a busy part of the home where a lot of connection with family and friends happens. At every party everyone ends up in the kitchen, right? This is a family that likes to entertain so it was fun to create this new space for them! I hope you enjoyed it!
