At the beginning of a project it’s fun to discover what couples agree and disagree on when it comes to personal style. I LOVE working with a mix of opinions and back grounds to create a space that shows off both styles. It can be fun when a couple has different ideas for style and they let you mix them! Here is a before picture of a dining room we worked on recently. The furniture my client had was a family heirloom, but it didn’t work well in the space.
Here is the after!! This client is a mix of natural and formal, masculine and feminine. She liked the upholstered chairs and he liked the rough edge walnut table. The concrete stools help make the dining space feel larger since they don’t have backs blocking the view out the window. This home gets a lot of natural light and beautiful views to the woods out back.
I designed the dining table top and base to fit the room exactly. They love to entertain and we can fit 8 people comfortably in this space, even though it’s not an over-sized dining area. We went large with the dining light, but kept it airy. I like the hints of black, dark wood and light wood as contrast.
What you can’t see in this picture is that the living room adjacent to the dining area is colorful, with purples and blues, which we designed for them a couple years ago. The dining room was kept neutral so they could accent with flowers and dinnerware. We spent time selecting the table settings to pull it all together!
The mirrors reflect a large window on the opposite wall in the living room, I love to “multiply” windows by reflecting them with mirrors. That natural walnut edge is so beautiful, we were all so excited about it! Even the fabricators were all talking about it, such fun!
These drapes are really hard to photograph. The texture in person is so beautiful! It takes a simple sheer panel and adds another layer of detail that I love.
On the dining chairs we used an indoor/outdoor fabric that is cleanable with bleach. No need to worry about red wine or food stains, especially when you have people over!
Once again here is the before…
And the after!
