Painting our House

Our house is currently being painted and I couldn’t be more excited about it! The last time our house was painted was 15 years ago, before Jeff and I were married. Jeff picked light tan for the main color and  dark tan and green for the trim work. The house was built in 1896 and is a simple Victorian style so there is a lot of trim. Here is a shot of the house last summer when the front porch was being redone after years of neglect.

The front porch is finished and runs the entire front of the house, I couldn’t be more pleased! I have always wanted a large front porch for reading, hanging out with friends or enjoying a glass of wine with my hubby. I can’t wait to furnish it this summer after it’s painted! Which, by the way desperately needs to be done. (below is a section of the house that was covered with wisteria)peeling paint

I love color, and we have really gone back and forth on what color to paint the outside of our home now that we have the chance to change it. I love this dark siding and coral/red trim, but our house felt too big for that much red. Coral is one of my favorite colors, but perhaps this is too much.

I also loved the idea of a bright front door and white trim. What’s nice about the charcoal gray siding is that it hides dirt well. This look is classic and a no brainer!

Jeff liked the idea of going dark with the siding, but after looking through inspiration photos I started to lean towards a light exterior. I found this image on Pinterest and fell in love! Off white with light gray trim and a bright front door, beautiful!

What I love about white is that it can feel classic and modern at the same time. This is a  Victorian house painted solid white, I saved this image years ago! The modern mix is so me. A brick exterior and concrete planter help keep the modern edge!

My neighbor has a white house, right next door so I don’t want to do solid bright white. An off white or very light gray would give me the overall lightness, but still provide some depth. And then to decide on a pop of color!

I will share before and after photos when it’s done! Who is excited it’s spring? Loving the great weather and time with my family. Have a great week everyone!
