Health and Home: Art could be the cure
Have you been repulsed by a piece of art? Or so in love with a piece it puts you in a trance that makes you feel at ease? Original art is full of beauty, soul, texture and emotion, and often we either love it or hate it.
The art we bring into our homes should stir something inside us! I believe with all my heart that a home should be designed to support healthy living; mental, physical and spiritual. Did you know studies have shown that viewing art can give the same pleasure as being in love?
Professor Semir Zeki, a neurobiologist at the University College of London, conducted a series of experiments where participants where asked to view works of art from Botecelli, Monet, and Constable while their brains were being scanned. The result was a surge of dopamine in the areas of the brain associated with romantic love.
Wow!
Bathing our eyes in beauty is not only enjoyable but it influences the chemical activity in our brains! I love this connection! Give your joy a boost and surround yourself with original art. If you are looking for some inspiration or ideas for artists to connect with check out the article I wrote for West Michigan Women on 5 ArtPrize artists and how I would use their work in the design of a room.
Good Art = Good Health!
