What's Hot, What's Not? Kitchen Bar Stools and Lighting
At the beginning of every project I have a meeting with my client and we play “What’s Hot, what’s not?”. This is basically a time for us to go through inspiration images and get to the bottom of what their personal style is for the new project. It can be really fun because everyone reacts so differently! Along with specific questions I ask, this exercise allows us to be really clear about what the project needs to be. By the time I present the design, I don’t end up bring a lot of alternatives because we have clearly defined what they love/hate. BUT I do bring some if the client is on the fence about a particular style or use of an item.
I am currently working on a project where we are doing a face lift of the entire first floor. The home was built in 1997 and has not been updated since. The bones of the house are really good, but good bones need an update at some point to feel current!! We will be remodeling the kitchen, adding more wood flooring and refinishing it, replacing lighting and hardware, furniture, etc. We are starting with nailing down the kitchen design because everyone knows that’s the Heart of the Home!!! These are some details the client liked.
At our next meting we presented concrete ideas for the new kitchen, along with some options for bar stools and pendant lighting. There are a couple different ways we could go, and these decisions would drive the next design choices we are making in the home. What do you think of the acrylic craze verses the time worn wood look? What option would you choose?
Let me know what you think!! My client has chosen their favorite and we are drilling down on the rest of the design, fun fun fun! Of course I always present options I like, so there is no wrong answer!
