A Bright Front Door!
Lot’s of progress on painting our 1896 historic home in Creston and I am excited to say we went with a light color! It is so exciting for us to have a fresh look! As a reminder, here is an older photo of the front of our house. The front porch had been damaged in the 1920’s (we believe) and the home owner made the porch smaller. At a later date, vinyl shutters were added, which we removed.
Last year we recreated the original front porch style and I am so happy to have a full front porch! The kids love to play out there and I can’t wait to furnish it when we are done painting. I decided not to put railings up because the kids like to sit on the edge and jump off, plus I like the open feel. I decided not to go dark for the paint and I am glad, the lightness feels refreshing and versatile (for this designer who likes to change things up). In general I like neutrals with a pop of color so this works great for that.
The blue porch ceiling is so dreamy in person! Not to dark, and with just enough gray undertones. I started out one shade lighter, but after one coat decided to go darker. It will really pop in the middle of winter when everything is covered in snow! Now I get to decide on a paint color for the front door. If you are following me on Instagram you might have seen an Insta Story where I held up a couple paint colors to test for the front door. The door is wood right now, we installed it ourselves and have enjoyed the natural wood finish, but I am ready for more color. I have decided on Benjamin Moore Starburst Orange!
I find myself increasingly drawn to the color orange. This shade of orange is a bit on the coral side, so yummy! It’s funny because I have about 5 orange/coral blouses and jackets in my closet, so it seems fitting that my front door be this color. How easy will it be to find my house now?
Ultimately these images helped solidify my choice. Orange is such a happy color, and I know I will be happy to see it every day!
Would you go with a bright color on your front door? With some design decisions made for the outside I am itching to rework more of the inside of the house. It feels so good to refresh!
