A Modern Chair I Love: The Steltman
Jeff and I have a lot of art, design and architecture books, we just love reading and collecting them! Most of the books are in the den at the front of our house, it’s very cozy and we love spending time in there!
One book we have a lot of fun looking through is our “How to Construct Rietveld Furniture” manual with working drawings, material lists, measurements and assembly instructions.
One chair I love in particular is the Steltman Chair, I have seen it created in many different colors!
Since I have always loved the Steltman Chair, Jeff decided to make one for me! He started with one solid white oak plank.
Then Jeff converted the plans from metric to imperial and started constructing! This is his love language, creating!
For the finish Jeff oxidized the wood with iron acetate, then applied a ceruse finish. I am so in love with how it turned out!! Here it is in our entry; black, green and white are one of my favorite combinations.
The mix of classic architecture and modern furniture makes me super happy! It might not be for lounging in but to have an extra seat or to use it as a side table is really convenient. Thankful for a partner who loves design as much as I do and is a MAKER, I am so blessed! Thank you for reading and happy designing!
