Do Opposite's Attract? Why Vintage Decor Works in Every Home
If you want to create a home with style and personality there is one sure fire way, incorporate vintage and antique pieces!
The word “vintage” conjures up different emotions depending on the person. Everyone interprets “cool” by their own standards and life experiences! I absolutely LOVE incorporating vintage/antique/one-of-a-kind pieces into my design work. No matter the “style” of the home, a clients personality really shines through when incorporating vintage pieces!
Mix, don’t match! Above in Bram’s room, a modern platform bed with an antique Sligh Furniture Co. dresser made in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Last week Friday I sat down with Anna Alvarez of Shop Nueve to talk vintage on the WGVU Morning Show with Shelley Irwin. Anna owns an online and by appointment shop that carries vintage furniture, art, lighting, accessories and rugs. Anna has been in business for 12 years and has a GREAT eye!
Here are a few tips from our talk:
\\ When you find a piece you love, buy it right away. Anna has seen so many items sell while another potential buyer was “thinking” about it.
\\ Start small . Maybe you are not sure how to incorporate vintage home items into your place, start with art, accessories, dishes or a funky side chair. These items can be easily moved around the house and are a great way to add texture and interest.
\\ Shop local! Support area retail and enjoy some instant gratification!
