Our Freshly Painted White House, Before and After!
Renovating a house is no small undertaking! It’s a joy, a pain and a strange addiction that I can’t fully explain. We are so delighted to have the exterior of our house transformed, it feels so good! Freshly painted from top to bottom just in time for fall, yay!
The original color was a lovely shade of “nicotine beige” as Jeff called it. Ugly plastic shutters that flanked the windows, it was pretty depressing! We rebuilt our front porch from top to bottom and I love having the open space for seating. Plus the kids love to jump off the porch so handrails would just get in the way!
A better look at the old color and porch construction in process!
I debated on painting our front door a bright coral, I think I am going to put that off until next year and just enjoy color from plants and seasonal decor. Yellow is one of my favorite colors, love this bold mum! The house is two shades of white, with the trim being a very cool white and the main siding a bit warmer for a little contrast.
The leafs are so pretty on our walk way, I have to persuade Jeff not to rake them all up right away!
I don’t think fall color has to be orange and red. I love the deep purple and yellow together.
A couple of adirondack chairs with plants keep it simple. You can see in the photo below I decided to paint all the sills on the house darker, just to add a bit more contrast.
Here is the west side of the house, landscaping will have to wait until next year. We need a master plan for our front, side and back yard. I CAN’T WAIT to have that added in.
Here is an image of the east side of our house, the paint was falling off!
East side all spruced up, just waiting for new landscaping!
Remember a while back when I posted about painting additions in a darker color? You can read and see examples here. We decided to try it on the back of our house. I like it! We are actually tearing off this part of the house next year and rebuilding it so I can change my mind to a different color then if I choose. I had to convince Jeff to paint out all the trim the same color, I think it looks much sleeker!
Our back entrance, big project for next year, but at least now it’s looking more cleaned up!
Below, a photo of the the back of the house when Jeff first bought it. EEK!
Back entrance after!
So happy this project is behind us, what a job. Now that the weather is getting cooler we are brain storming indoor projects for the house. One that I am really excited about is adding an attic hatch so we can have year round storage in our large and unused attic space. We are also adding finishing touches on our boys bedrooms, art work, window treatments, lighting, pillows, etc. The last 20% of a project is what makes a room feel lived in and punches up the personality so I am excited to finish out Bram and Marek’s spaces. I will be sharing for sure!
I hope you guys have a great week and a Happy Halloween!
XO,
